Donut Abacus

Counting, adding and subtracting is practical and enjoyable with this series of colourful abaci!!!

Tactile and easy-to-grasp donuts, stands, posts and hot-stamped number tiles allow students to explore and record the results of their number investigations in a concrete and visual way.

Place Value is important: A donut on the right-hand post has a value of 1.

On the middle post, it has a value of 1 ten. On the left-hand post, it has a value of 1 hundred. Join another stand to extend into thousands, tens of thousands, etc. Add a decimal point to the one’s column digit and make numbers smaller than one!!!

The posts hold EXACTLY 9 DONUTS because the largest digit in any column of our number system is 9.

Explore how the change from 9 to 0 adds one donut to the next post.
